Marriage and Family Therapy Programs in Utah

The MMFT at Utah State University  is designed to prepare students for clinical careers in marriage and family therapy. As they study human development and marital and family relations, students are provided with basic academic and initial clinical practice requirements for Utah state licensure as marriage and family therapists and for clinical membership in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) and qualifies students for intern-level licensure as marriage and family therapists in the state of Utah.

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies is housed in the College of Education and Human Services, which is in the top 2% of all graduate colleges of education in the nation and is ranked third in total research dollars received.

Utah Valley University

The UVU MFT program prepares students to demonstrate competence in MFT knowledge, practice, diversity, research, and ethics. These competences are referred to as program goals, and specific student learning outcomes support each goal.  The UVU MFT Program is not accredited by COAMFTE. Although the program was designed to align with current accreditation requirements, we cannot guarantee that the program will become accredited in the future. We have begun the process of seeking COAMFTE accreditation, which will take several years to complete.

Brigham Young University

In harmony with Brigham Young University’s sponsoring organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the mission and aims of Brigham Young University, the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) programs focus on the “balanced development” of all associated with MFT training to be a healing influence in a world struggling to create safe and meaningful relationships. This development is carried out in an environment of compassion, inclusion, and diversity. Both programs educate MFTs in a relational perspective on the practice and science of healing to improve the health and well-being of individuals, couples, and families. Finally, we strive to be an international leader in process research that informs how change occurs and extend our healing influence beyond our programs.

Utah Tech University 

Our mission is to prepare students to serve others as practicing marriage and family therapists. We provide a wealth of diverse and practical experiences, research opportunities, and attentive supervision. Our focus is to inspire students to excel academically, professionally, and personally. We aim to create culturally competent, ethical, and effective therapists who strive to make valuable contributions to the profession of marriage and family therapy and their communities.

The missions of the UT MFT Program, the Psychology Department, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and UT are united in their commitment to academics, diversity, and service. Our goals as an MFT program align with the overarching principle of UT to enrich the professional and personal lives of students and community by providing opportunities that engage the unique Southern Utah environment and resources.
